Julie Lapalme

Julie Lapalme is a Montreal-based new media artist born in Sudbury, Ontario. She holds a BFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design and an MA from Concordia University (Littératures francophones et resonances médiatiques).

Solo exhibitions of her work have taken place at NSCAD’s Anna Leonowens Gallery (Halifax), the Khyber Centre for the Arts (Halifax), Galerie Sans Nom Co-op Ltée (Moncton) and the Maison de la Culture Rosemont/Petite-Patrie (Montreal). Group exhibitions include New Media / No Memory at the Centre for Art Tapes (Halifax), Re-make, Re-Model at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, Amour/Horreur Part II at La Centrale (Montreal) and Reflets V at the Maison de la culture Marie-Uguay (Montreal).

Her video work was broadcast on the Women’s Television Network and screened at Images Festival of Independent Film & Video (Toronto), Herland Film Festival (Calgary), eyelevel Gallery (Halifax) and Wormwoods Cinema (Halifax).

Her Web work has been included in the 13º Videobrasil International Electronic Art Festival (São Paulo, Brazil), the Festival International Nouveau Cinéma Nouveaux Médias (Montreal) and Studio XX’s Maid in Cyberspace Festival (Montreal). Her project Tongue Rug : Tapis à langues won (Ex Aqueo) the Bell Fund at the Forum des Nouvelles Écritures: Cyberpitch 2.0 (Festival International Nouveau Cinéma Nouveaux Médias) and her website for CBC’s Montreal Matters series won two RTNDA Awards (Radio Television News Directors Association).

Artist in residence at the Banff Centre for the Arts and EMMEDIA (Calgary), Julie has given numerous new media workshops at various artistic and cultural organizations over the years.
